Terms of Service

Last updated

These terms cover your use of wtsp.dev: the website, the API at wtsp.dev/v1 and the @wtsp/cli command-line tool (together, "the service"). The service is run by wtsp.dev ("we", "us"). By using it, or by paying for it, you agree to these terms. If you use it for a company, you agree for that company.

What we sell

The service looks up phone numbers. For a number you send, it answers whether the number is on WhatsApp and, depending on the endpoint, the public profile WhatsApp shows for it: account type, about text, business profile and profile photo. A separate endpoint gives a number's carrier, line type and region. Prices for each lookup are on the pricing section of the homepage.

Answers show what WhatsApp reported when we last looked the number up, which can be up to 7 days earlier. We don't promise that every answer is complete or correct, and a profile can change right after we look it up.

How you pay

You can pay in three ways:

  • Per request with x402: USDC on Base, signed with each request.
  • Per request with MPP: stablecoins on Tempo, signed with each request.
  • Prepaid credit: buy credit in whole USDC amounts and get an API key that spends it.

Payments are taken only for answers. A request we turn away (a malformed number, or a number with no carrier on record) or a lookup that gets no answer from WhatsApp is not charged: the payment is cancelled, or the credit goes back to the key.

All payments are final. See the Refund Policy.

API keys and credit

An API key is shown once, when you buy it. We store only a fingerprint of it, so we can't show it to you again or recover it. Keep it secret: anyone holding it can spend its credit. If you lose a key, its credit is lost too.

Credit doesn't expire. It can only be spent on lookups. It can't be cashed out, moved to another key, or exchanged for anything else.

Free lookups

The playground on the homepage gives each visitor a few free lookups a day, behind a captcha. They're for trying the service. Getting around the daily limit, for example by switching networks or automating the captcha, is not allowed.

How you may use the service

You are responsible for how you use the answers. You must:

  • have a lawful reason to look up each number you send, and follow the privacy and data-protection laws that apply to you, such as the GDPR in Europe;
  • follow anti-spam and marketing laws, and only message people who agreed to hear from you;
  • follow WhatsApp's own terms when you contact people on WhatsApp.

You must not use the service to:

  • stalk, harass, threaten, track or spy on anyone;
  • build profiles of people to sell, or to decide things about them such as hiring, housing, credit or insurance;
  • send spam or messages people didn't agree to receive;
  • commit fraud or impersonate anyone;
  • look up a number whose owner opted out, by any route;
  • overload, attack or reverse-engineer the service, or resell raw access to it as a competing lookup service.

We may suspend or close any key, wallet or visitor that breaks these rules, without notice. Credit on a key closed for abuse is not refunded.

People who don't want to be looked up

Anyone can ask us to stop answering lookups for their number and to delete what we hold about it. The Privacy Policy explains how.

WhatsApp

wtsp.dev is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by WhatsApp or Meta Platforms, Inc. WhatsApp is a trademark of Meta Platforms, Inc.

Changes and availability

We may change the service, its prices and these terms. New prices apply to lookups made after the change. Changes to these terms apply from the date shown at the top of this page; using the service after that date means you accept them.

We aim to keep the service running but don't promise it will always be available, fast or free of errors. We may stop offering it.

Disclaimer and liability

The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, lost data or lost business. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that can't be waived.
